The new club and mess incorporates a new super-diner which will serve varied nutritious meals in the pay-as-you-dine format, with the capacity to feed 1,200 people across three sittings.

The building also has a bar and internet café, both of which provide relaxed surroundings for soldiers based at the garrison.

The new club and mess also includes a commercial kitchen, retail outlets, a lounge and office rooms.

Project SLAM is Defence Estates' key workstream to update Single Living Accommodation.

The mess has been built under the Catterick Campus One scheme, which has also seen 1,424 beds of Single Living Accommodation delivered by Project SLAM.

To date, SLAM has built some 3,500 bedspaces and four messes at Catterick. A further 1,500 bedspaces and two mess buildings are in various stages of development at the garrison.

Following the handover of the building, the management of the external areas has passed from Debut Services Ltd (DSL) Capital to DSL Compliance and the Regional Prime Contractor, Carillion Enterprise.

Management of the water and wastewater infrastructure passed from DSL Capital to Coast2Coast under Project Aquatrine - a Private Finance arrangement which has transferred the delivery of MOD water and wastewater services and associated assets to the private sector for a period of 25 years.

Commenting on the new building, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Peter Morgan, the project-sponsored end user representative, said that it had been presented in 'an immaculate condition'.

Peter Willett, Defence Estates focal point for the integrated project team, said:

"With the 'Soldier First' ethos firmly in mind, the project team has truly excelled. There are many examples of sustainable development which have been expertly incorporated into what is a first class solution.

"The building manages to combine functionality with superb looks. The attention to detail and finishing is impressive and bears testament to the dedication of the site team who have certainly gone the extra mile with this project."
